Promotion of Food Parks
Food Park:

Food park is a place where food processing units are established predominantly for production of processable Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Meat, Poultry, Dairy and Fisheries products.

Food Park projects in Tamil Nadu:
  • As per the Budget Speech announcement of 2018-19, in principle was received from Government vide G.O.Ms.No. 281 Agri (AM3) department dated 2.11.2018 for establishment of Food Parks in 10 locations of TamilNadu viz., Dindigul, Krishnagiri, Salem, Erode, Cuddalore, Tiruvannamalai, Theni, Tirunelveli, Villupuram and Virudhunagar.
  • Promotion of Food Parks is being taken up in a phased manner by the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Agri. Business.
In above food parks, State Government is proposed to undertake the following activities:
  1. 1. Site development activities:
    Laying of internal roads, drainage, water supply, electricity supply, solid waste management plant, Effluent Treatment Plant, tele-communication etc.,
  2. 2. Common infrastructure facilities:
    Need based common infrastructure facilities like Food Testing Labs, Quality Control Units, Market Yard, Trade Facilitation Centre, Logistics, Pack Houses, Cold Storages, Export and Import centers etc., will be established.
    Developed Industrial Plots of various sizes will be offered at concessional rates to entrepreneurs, private food processors, Packaging Industries, etc., to plug-and-play in the Food Parks.

Present Status of Food Park Projects:

  • Government has issued administrative approval for establishment of Mega food Park in an area of 53.36 acres of SIPCOT land at Gangaikondan, Tirunelveli district at a total cost of Rs. 77.94 Crore. (G.O.Ms.No. 265 Agri (AM3) dept dated 14.11.2019). NABCONS has been appointed as Project Management Consultancy for implementation of this food park project and the project implementation work is under progress.
  • For establishment of 8 Agro Processing Clusters in Theni, Dindigul, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Cuddalore, Madurai and Villupuram districts under the scheme of Agro Processing Cluster under Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), grant is sanctioned by MoFPI, GoI. The total Project cost of 8 APCs is Rs. 217.94 Crore.
  • i) As announced in Budget 2020 – 21, it is proposed to establish 7 Agro Processing Clusters in Ariyalur, Perambalur, Karur, Dharmapuri, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, and Ramanathapuram districts.
